Covered, Round 3

August 20th, 2009 Posted in Artwork, News | Add a Comment »

This week I was once again featured on Robert Goodin’s Covered Blog. This go round, I reworked Green Lantern #122 from 1979, original cover by Dick Giordano. You can see the post on Covered, or right here. First up is my cover, followed by Giordano’s original from 30 years ago. Hope you enjoy!

Batmobile iPhone Dock? YES PLEASE!

August 18th, 2009 Posted in Artwork, Fun, Technology | Add a Comment »

So I recently upgraded from my original, first generation iPhone to a shnazzy new iPhone 3G S, and that meant that my old dock would no longer fit my phone. When contemplating the cost of a new dock, Mel and I realized it would be cheaper and a heck of a lot cooler to build a dock of our own! That’s where this sweet diecast 1966 Adam West style Batmobile came in (I assure you, I paid super-cheap TJ Maxx price!). Combine that with a dock adapter, an iPhone cable, and a few hours of ingenuity, whaddya get? A Mel Chao/Mark Grambau original BATMODOCK!  Begin geeky adoration…NOW!

Covered!

May 20th, 2009 Posted in Artwork, News | 2 Comments »

So as of about 7 minutes ago (no, I didn’t sit refreshing my browser over and over…who does that?), I have another piece featured on Robert Goodin’s Covered. This time around it’s a Justice League of America cover from 1966 featuring the Shaggy Man. I had a lot of fun putting this together, and I’m feeling good about the direction of this style. Here’s the piece, though I recommend you head over to Covered to see it larger, as well as to see all the other fantastic submissions.

Now that I’m in the unpacking stage of my move to Boston, you can expect some more work up here soon, at least sketchbook pages.

“Revenge is a dish…”

March 5th, 2009 Posted in Artwork | 2 Comments »

When Dr. Victor Fries was exposed to harmful cryogenic chemicals, he became Mr. Freeze: a terrifying spectre of vengeance. In his Batman: The Animated Series debut, “Heart of Ice,” he embraces an old proverb.

“Revenge is a dish best served cold.”

“I am vengeance…”

Beware the Batman, fear incarnate to those who prey on the fearful.

“I am vengeance. I am the night. I am Batman!”

Freeze!

February 17th, 2009 Posted in sketchbook | Add a Comment »

My favorite Batman super-villain would have to be Dr. Victor Fries, AKA Mr. Freeze, with no exception (as evidenced by my obsessive portrayal of him for Halloween 2007). This sketch took a little longer than Two-Face and Ventriloquist/Scarface, but was well worth it.

Another quick sketch: One of my favorite Batman villains, Arnold Wesker, AKA The Ventriloquist/Scarface.

Covers

February 16th, 2009 Posted in Artwork, News | Add a Comment »

I recently got in contact with the guy behind Covered, a blog that features artists re-doing old comic covers. Entries thus far have ranged from Tin Tin to Avengers, from Uncle Scrooge to Spider-Man. I decided to try my hand at it and made two new covers: “Captain America & The Falcon #137″ (original by Sal Buscema) and “Justice League of America #45″ (original by Mike Sekowsky).

The Captain/Falcon one will be featured on Covered in about a week, and I’m waiting on word about the JLA piece. So here they are, coupled with scans of the originals. Enjoy!

Update: I’ve taken down the JLA v. Shaggy Man for now, but it’ll be back up in another post when it’s posted on Covered in May!
